1977 to 1980 Kawasaki Refurbished Engine Motor KZ1000 Z1 KZ900

PIT STOP PERFORMANCE Kawasaki KZ1000 almost new, completely refurbished crate motor. This listing is for a vintage 1977-80 KZ1000 motor that has been restored to almost new condition. Down to the smallest part, this motor is either completely new or completely refurbished. The pictures show some of the possible configurations for this motor. The head, cylinder and cases have been refinished with a silver high temp paint that has been baked on to make it extremely durable.

The finish was applied after the components were bead Blasted. This finish looks better than a brand new motor. Every bolt hole in the cylinder, head and cases has been inspected and had the threads chased. Any discrepancies were repaired at this time.

The head has been completely refurbished, including all of the following: - Glass bead eight valves. Heat head and remove valve guides without causing subsequent damage to head.

Install new APE bronze valve guides. Ream new valve guides to match valves. Resurface valves using Kwik Way valve resurfacing machine. Grind three angle valve seats to maximize valve potential using Kwik Way valve seat grinder. Lap valves into newly ground seats.

Trim valve stem length to match amount of change. Assemble head with new Viton valve seals and APE heavy duty valve springs. Install new tach drive seal and o'ring. Install new intake manifolds (carb holders). The head has also had the camshaft lobe area clearanced to accept camshafts with up to.

Finally the head was resurfaced to ensure flatness. The camshafts are stock, and have had APE adjustable camshaft sprockets installed. Camshaft timing has been set to 107-108 degree centerlines which is the Pit Stop Performance recommended setting for stock camshafts and street use. Valve clearances have all been set. The cam chain has been replaced with a Tsubaki heavy duty unit. The components which contact the cam chain have all been replaced with new items. That includes all of the following parts: - Top cam chain idler assembly and four dampers. Both cam chain idler assemblies between head and cylinder along with the four rubber dampers. Cam chain roller tensioner assembly. Bottom cam chain roller along with two rubber dampers.

The stock pistons have been replaced with MTC Engineering forged aluminum pistons. These pistons are manufactured in Cocoa Florida using the highest quality aluminum alloy.

Each piston is subjected to a battery of quality control checks to assure uniformity and high quality. Some of the world's fastest motorcycles are equipped with MTC Engineering piston kit 70mm (1015cc) for a Z1 or KZ900 motor. With a 903cc cylinder or 72mm (1075cc) for a KZ1000.

Motor with a 1015cc or 1.015L cylinder. This MTC Engineering piston kit contains the following: (4) 70mm or 72mm aluminum forged pistons with 10.5:1 cranking compression when used with stock camshafts.

(4) Hard chromed wrist pins. (4) Sets of 70XC 70mm rings or 72XC 72mm rings. (with three piece oil ring) (8) Teflon buttons sized for a 70 or 72mm bore. (buttons take the place of circlips) (1) Cometic two piece fiber head gasket with chain galley o'ring.

The cylinder has been bored and honed to precisely match the new MTC Engineering pistons to the bore. The cylinder was resurfaced to ensure flatness. The cylinder and pistons were carefully installed.

A new cam chain tensioner gasket and APE manual cam chain tensioner was included. The crankshaft has been inspected and welded.

This significantly strengthens the crankshaft and will allow any use of the motor in the future up to and including drag racing, without worry about possible crankshaft damage. The transmission has been completely refurbished to include the following: - All gears were bead blasted to improve visual inspection. All gears were visually inspected with 14X magnification.

(We have been racing these motors for over thirty years, we know what to look for) - Transmission gear dogs were undercut. This procedure enhances the ability of the gears to engage properly during up shifting and to remain engaged once the shift is complete.

This is also necessary if the motor is to be raced in the future. When the cases were assembled, a new oil passage o'ring was installed. The H-cover (cam cover)has been refinished. It has been installed with a new gasket and new half moon seals (cam end plugs) and new stainless steel allen head bolts. Four new wire clamps were installed to secure the spark plug wires. The kickstarter cover has been polished and installed with a new gasket and new stainless steel allen head bolts. A new seal has been installed in the cover. The (8) clutch fiber disks are new OEM style units. The metal plates have been inspected and bead blasted. The clutch cover has been polished and installed with a new gasket and new stainless steel allen head bolts. A new oil level window has also been installed.

The points base cover is polished. The cover has been installed with a new gasket and new stainless steel allen head bolts. The timing advancer has been bead blasted and reassembled with the advancer return springs tightened to allow the advance assembly to positively return to the zero advance position. New five millimeter screws, flat washers and lock washers to secure the ignition plate to the housing were installed.

The points cover is polished. It has been installed with a new gasket and new stainless steel allen head bolts. The dyno (alternator) cover is polished. A new rubber grommet has been installed on the wiring harness. Two new wire clamps were installed to secure the alternator wires.

A new shift lever return spring was installed and the transmission cover has had all three seals replaced, and it was installed with a new gasket and a new output shaft o'ring. The counter shaft sprocket cover has been polished.

The two shifter shaft seals have been replaced. The cover was installed with new stainless steel allen head bolts. The stainless steel allen head bolt kit in use is 59 pieces total.

The oil pump was cleaned and inspected then installed with a new O'ring. The oil pan was installed with a new gasket a new oil filter and o'rings and a new drain plug. A new set of NGK B8ES spark plugs was installed. A new set of copper exhaust gaskets is included.

The meticulous preparation and care in assembly makes this motor, head and shoulders above a factory assembled motor. Some of the options contained in this motor that you will not find anywhere else include, but are not limited to: - Heavy duty valve springs. Head clearanced for high lift camshafts.

APE heavy duty chrome moly cylinder studs. APE heavy duty chrome moly head nuts or rechromed stock nuts. Oil Pan Gate - Transmission gear dogs undercut. MTC Engineering high performance forged aluminum pistons.

Teflon buttons in place of circlips. Professionally performed three angle valve job to maximize head flow potential.

Almost every service shown for this motor is performed at our facility. Besides boring, valve jobs and welding we offer several stages of porting for the venerable old Z1's and KZ's along with oversized valve installation. If it can be done to an air cooled Kawasaki four cylinder motor, We can do it. Your motor can be custom built to your specifications including displacement up to 1260cc with a stock cylinder.

Your choice of camshafts, cam gear, porting and valves. Pit Stop Peformance can provide you with any product made or distributed by: MTC Engineering , American Performance Engineering (APE) , or Schnitz Racing. Please contact me with any questions or requests. The crate is 24" X 26" X 28.
