I bought this from a friend about 4 years ago. He had taken it off the road in 1983 , stripped it down and had the frame powder coated, then the project stalled. Unfortunately he had stored the previously running fine engine in a cold damp cellar and it was badly seized.
The pistons were rusted in the cylinders and all four gudgeon pins were seized in the con rods. I sourced a second hand crankshaft with con rods and barrels and pistons. Whilst in the engine I cleaned up the cylinder head and ground all the valves in. I fitted a new camchain, primary drive rubbers and several oil seals. The engine starts easily and runs fine.
Chassis wise I have fitted several brand new parts including , rear shock absorbers, drive chain, front brake master cylinder, rubber flexible hose, metal pipe , caliper seal and brake pads and just this week a new sealed type battery. I had to source a good second hand front wheel and headlamp brackets from the USA. It has a Motad 4 into 1 exhaust system fitted.
I took the fuel tank which was full of leaded petrol for 25 years! Back to bare metal and painted it with rattle cans. I had a go at pinstriping using tapes. The original style of transfers are still available on line. The front forks really need rechroming as they are pitted and damaged the new fork seals I had fitted.
The bike runs well and rides ok. With the forks done it is a useable classic, but it really deserves to be improved cosmetically. I have spent as much as I want to on it and hardly ride it. The bike is in south Manchester, near the airport.
The bike is strictly cash on collection. I recommend viewing as I find photos online always make things look better than in the flesh. Please remember that this is a 42 year old bike.
